Parkinson’s sufferers turned into ‘sex addicts’

-

A DRUG to treat Parkinson’s disease is said to be turning patients into gambling and sex addicts.

One sufferer of the illness even claimed the medication made them become a transvestite.

Others said it had given them obsessive-compulsive disorders or made them uncontrollable shoppers or eaters.

Figures from the UK’s medicines watchdog show there have been 226 reports of 767 alleged side-effects from Ropinirole in the last six years.

It is one of the key drugs used to fight symptoms of Parkinson’s.

Included are 18 reports of patients claiming that the drug gave them a gambling problem.

And 21 people said it had made them hypersexual, or sex addicts. Another five people said it increased their sexual libido.

One person said they suffered from excessive sexual fantasies and one alleged the drug made them become a transvestite.

Shockingly, one person claimed that MATTHEW DAVIS it made them commit an offence of sexual abuse, while another said they had become a voyeur.

The data from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) also revealed 20 people believed the pills had made them develop obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD).

Six of these said they could not control their shopping and two claimed they became obsessive hoarders.

There was one report that a patient had developed Tourette’s syndrome, where they have physical or vocal tics and are often unable to control their swearing.

Five said that they had developed eating disorders.

Other alleged side-effects included nightmares, hallucinations and suicidal thoughts.

The allegations were all recorded by the MHRA, which collates all reports of side-effects under its “Yellow Card” adverse drug reaction (ADR) scheme.
