DAN’S MEDAL FOR BRAVERY Tud saves bookies

-

Drawn on the stands rail, he weaved his way to the opposite side of the track and came with a late charge to deny a huge gamble on Oh This Is Us.

The runner-up would have given Ryan Moore a four-timer and his defeat saved bookies an estimated £20million payout.

Bravery, who was fourth in last season’s Irish 2000 Guineas when trained by Aidan O’Brien, was making his first start for North Yorkshire trainer David O’Meara.

Tudhope’s daring manoeuvre paid off as the 20-1 shot, bought for 44,000 guineas at the Tattersalls autumn sales, wrecked the gamble on the 7-2 favourite.

O’Meara said: “I thought it was a fantastic ride. After the Spring Mile, Danny said he was going to bite the bullet and take him over JASON HEAVEY to the far side. He purposefully missed the break, which helped get him settled and he made a beeline to get over there.

“It was a very confident ride because he hadn’t ridden much in the winter but he’s obviously not rusty.”

Tudhope added: “The key to this horse is just to get him to switch off as he can be a bit keen in his races.”

Victory for Moore would have given him a 2,591-1 fourtimer and battered the bookmakers.

But he had to settle for a 575-1 treble on Tupi, Ballet Concerto and Kool Kompany.

He showed his genius by giving each of the horses a beautifully timed ride.
