Election: 46 ruddy days to go COR-BINNED

Now Jezza’s own MPs ditch him

LABOUR MPs are pretending Jeremy Corbyn does not exist in a bid to hang on to their seats at the General Election.

They have erased him from campaign leaflets and are doing all they can to ensure he does not visit their constituencies.

The hard-left Labour leader, referred to as “the C-word” by his own MPs, has an approval rating at an all-time low.

Some polls show he is less popular than Michael Foot, who led Labour to a huge defeat in 1983.

One Labour MP said: “No-one wants to have Jeremy Corbyn’s face on their leaflets, let alone his presence on voters’ doorsteps.

“It’s going to be very much a case of ‘don’t mention the C-word’ as we campaign to keep our seats, especially in the North, where he is a complete turn-off for voters.

“There are some areas where people will be voting on an ABC basis – Anyone But Corbyn.

“At this rate, the Labour leader will feature on more Conservative campaign literature than ours.”

Left-wing activist Andrew Fisher was yesterday named as the brains behind Labour’s manifesto.

But insiders said MPs had been left in the dark about how the party plans to campaign.

A source said: “We don’t know what is going on.

“We’ve had nothing from the leadership on Labour’s central campaign message, slogans or manifesto pledges. “It doesn’t inspire much hope. “I know of fellow MPs with majorities of over 10,000 who are bricking it.”

At least 13 Labour MPs have resigned ahead of the June 8 vote, including former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, Gisela Stuart and Jim Dowd.

It is expected more may step down in the coming days after party insiders revealed that Corbyn was resigned to losing.

And he is thought to be considering a power-sharing deal with the SNP and Liberal Democrats.

Another party insider said some younger MPs were holding out for the £15,000 severance pay offered to members who lose their seats at a General Election. Yesterday, a Labour campaign source admitted winning was not the priority. He added: “Our number one goal is to deny the Tories a majority.”

Last night it emerged an online support group has been set up for Labour supporters who fear that Corbyn will lead their party to electoral oblivion.
