Britain’s ultimate terror cell
1-IN-5 MUSLIM AT KILLER’S JAIL BELMARSH IS HQ FOR ISIS
ONE in five inmates at a jail linked to the radicalistion of Westminster killer Khalid Masood is a Muslim.
Masood, who killed five in a car and knife attack in the heart of London, is believed to have been turned into a fanatic at Wayland prison.
He served two years at the category C jail in Norfolk for grievous bodily harm in 2000. Latest figures show there are 185 Muslim cons at Wayland out of 954 – nearly 20% of the prison’s population.
The news came as it was revealed 28 of Britain’s most dangerous extremists will be moved to their own “jihadi jail” from next month. Prisons minister ANDY GARDNER Sam Gyimah has announced plans for separate units at three prisons. The first will be at HMP Franklin in County Durham, which houses 2005 London bomber Hussain Osman. It means the “most subversive offenders”, who may be radicalising others or planning terrorist acts, will be kept away from other men. Bob Neill, chairman of the House of Commons justice select committee, fears radicals exploit the more relaxed anti-extremism measures in lower risk jails. He said the Government should consider segregation in the UK’s 52 category C units. Mr Neill said: “Is there a risk of radicalisation at a lower level? We need to find out. “This is about having units in prison where you can put the really hardest core (extremists) into segregation.
“One of the real problems is when these really hardline guys influence more vulnerable prisoners.”
Adam Deen, executive director of the anti-extremist organisation Quilliam, backed calls for new measures at lower risk jails.
He called for all prison staff to be trained to spot radicalisation. Mr Deen added: “The large number of Muslim inmates at these types of jails is of concern.
“We are not doing enough to prevent radicalisation of vulnerable inmates.” A PRISON holding some of the most dangerous terrorists in Britain has become the headquarters of Islamic State in the UK.
Category A Belmarsh prison – known by inmates as HMP Isis – is one of the main centres of radicalisation in England.
Terrorist inmates openly declare themselves as Isis members and celebrate atrocities and attacks, say jail sources.
And large sections of the prison are now effectively in the hands of convicted terrorists and radicalised inmates, the Daily Star Sunday has learned.
It is also understood that terrorist convicts attempted to “turn” a prison officer who showed an interest in Islam while working at the jail in Thamesmead, south London.
Our source said: “The Isis prisoners boss the high-security wing at Belmarsh.
“They take no notice of the prison officers, they hold their own meetings in cells or special rooms and they regard everyone who isn’t a member of their group as a threat. They prey PATRICK WILLIAMS on vulnerable and isolated prisoners. They talk constantly about martyrdom and what they are going to do when they are freed. “It is crazy. The jail’s out of control.” One of the leading Isis members is said to be Mohammed Rehman, also known as the “Silent Bomber” who was recently convicted of a second terrorist offence while serving a 27-year sentence. Rehman, who was originally jailed for planning a massacre on the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 attacks, was found with a handwritten recipe for explosives in his Belmarsh cell. Another is said to be Anjem Choudary, who was given a five-year prison sentence in July 2016 for being a supporter of Islamic State. Choudary was also a founding member of the Islamist organisation, al-Muhajiroun. Another imate was Michale Adebolajo, who was convicted of the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby in 2013. Adebolajo was moved from Belmarsh to Frankland Prison, Co Durham, amid fears that he was trying to radicalise other inmates.
