Jihadis told to target politicians

JIHADIS TARGET POLITICIANS

A HATE-FILLED website is urging jihadis to attack politicians.

It comes just weeks after extremists were told to hunt down TV stars including BBC newsreaders Fiona Bruce and Huw Edwards.

The latest post was on the Islamic State website, an offshoot of a well-known terrorism channel.

It provided a link to a parliamentary monitoring site which gives details of MPs’ activities, as well as their photos.

The post tells sympathisers: “UK only. Yet you work for Allah! Hunt your prey.”

An accompanying image reads “Just Terror” and includes text praising martyrdom.

Last year, Labour politician Jo Cox was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall, West Yorks, by loner Thomas Mair in the run-up to the Brexit vote.

After the tragic attack, MPs were urged to review their security. Last month, the Daily Star Sunday revealed the Isis site told wannabe jihadis to hunt down newsreaders.

It provided a link with the names of several stars including Victoria Derbyshire.

A separate list detailing Sky News anchors was also uploaded. It included information about Kay Burley and Dermot Murnaghan. It also called for attacks on hotels and diners, including London’s Oxo Tower and two restaurants inside the Shard building.

In April, Brit Khalid Masood drove his car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four, before knifing to death PC Keith Palmer outside Parliament. He was then shot dead.

A parliamentary spokesman said: “We do not comment on the specifics of security, including any advice given to Members.

“However, we work closely with the police, security services and others to ensure our security measures are effective and meet whatever level of security risk Parliament faces.

“These measures are always, and will continue to be, under constant review.”

The confidential anti-terrorism hotline is 0800 789 321.
