FAMOUS EASTENDERS LINE A TURN-OFF FOR STAR JESSIE I hate it when fans shout ‘You ain’t my mother!’

Kym: Make mine a double

EASTENDERS favourite Jessie Wallace says she is sick of fans shouting “You ain’t my mother” at her.

The line is from a 2001 scene when her character Kat revealed she was Zoe’s mum.

In an Albert Square showdown, Zoe (Michelle Ryan) stormed: “You can’t tell me what to do…you ain’t my mother.” Kat replied: “Yes, I am!”

People have bellowed the quote at Jessie almost every day for 16 years.

In an exclusive interview she told us: “Someone did it yesterday and I just gave them a dirty look. When people see me they say ‘Go on… say it, say it’. And I’m just like ‘no’.”

Jessie, 45, and costar Shane Richie, who plays her screen husband Alfie, quit EastEnders in 2015.

They are now starring in spin-off Redwater, which kicked off last week.

Jessie said: “I don’t miss being on EastEnders…not really. As an actor you like to move on and do other stuff. I don’t really miss it at all.”

In Redwater Kat goes on the hunt for a son she never knew she had.

In one of the daftest plots in the history of EastEnders it emerges she gave birth to a son without realising.

Show boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins said he was tempted to re-create the “You ain’t my mother” moment.

He said: “We toyed with it. We kept trying with every script and we kept coming back to it. But we didn’t want ED GLEAVE TV Editor to keep going back to EastEnders too much. “And you can’t top ‘ You ain’t my mother’. You’ve got to think of a different way of doing it. It is still one of my favourite telly moments of all time.” For years Jessie filmed up to five episodes a week on EastEnders, but on Redwater the pace was slower. She said: “On EastEnders because you’re banging out so many scenes you don’t get a chance to rehearse. “But with Redwater we got the chance to try it different ways. With this you can pull it right back and it’s much more powerful.” Shane, 53, added: “This experience was very different. On a soap you’re doing sometimes 25 scenes in a day. “On this we were doing about two. So you get a chance to look at the dialogue and think how you are going to play it.” Dominic was the boss at EastEnders for four years but reckons Redwater is better quality. He said: “Hopefully the audience who like highbrow drama will watch. There are no references to EastEnders. We don’t mention Albert Square or the Queen Vic. “We had a little wobble when we started Redwater because it is a risk. It’s not the safe thing to do. We could have just stayed at EastEnders. But we wanted to do something fresh.” Kat & Alfie: Redwater continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One. KYM Marsh came face to face with her own waxwork yesterday as she became the latest Corrie star to feature at Madame Tussauds. A team of 20 staff at the attraction’s Blackpool site spent four months and £150,000 to get the model looking just right. Kym, 40, popped into the venue’s replica Rovers Return pub to see her likeness for the first time. It has integrated speech technology and can say well known lines spoken by Kym’s character, Rover’s barmaid Michelle Connor. Kym said: “It’s such an honour, especially as I’m being placed among Corrie royalty in the Rovers Return Inn – I’d love to take her home. ”
