MISSING CHAMPS LEAGUE COULD PROVE COSTLY

-

THE Premier League season comes to an end today – and you might need a calculator to keep up with things.

That is not only because of the goals which will fly in across the country but also given how close qualification for next season’s Champions League is between Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

There is even the chance a play-off game may be needed to separate the sides, with the trio having similar goals scored and goal difference figures after 37 matches.

City and Liverpool have the advantage sitting in third and fourth places respectively, although there are a number of scenarios in which fifth-place Arsenal can still grab a top-four spot.

Whoever can solve the equation this afternoon will be adding Champions League football to their fixture list next season.

But even if Liverpool do secure a top-four finish, boss Jurgen Klopp says they still have a long way to go before Anfield fans can start thinking about a new era at the club.

He said: “You have to respect the opponent, the rules, the 90 minutes.

“All the rest, in terms of what it means for us, we can talk about after the game. I don’t think anybody has ever said before a game that it will be the start of a new era for them.”
