them to beat us. A Lions tour is big – this is why we play rugby.

“It’s the pinnacle of where you get to as an international player and you have to embrace the challenge and play to the best of your ability when you get a shot.

“Whatever they throw at us, we will be ready.”

If the Lions fail to beat the All Blacks on the field in their three-Test series they should at least out sing them off it.

Part of Gatland’s plan to ensure the players from all four home nations bond tightly is having a special Lions tour choir.

Not that the mix of English, Welsh, Scots and Irish stars will be asking Simon Cowell to appear on Britain’s Got Talent any day soon according to Watson. Asked how his own singing was, he said: “Awful! The choir is pretty good though. We’ve had a couple of sessions and we are getting there.

“JJ thinks he can sing, but he is terrible. The boys are getting to grips with the songs. Some are tricky and some a bit easier.

“It has been enjoyable and part of us bonding together as a squad of players.

“Coming from four different nations and having not met a few of the boys before, it’s important to step out of your comfort zone and get to know people you might not necessarily gravitate towards.” RIGHT NOTES: Gatland
