7TH HEAVEN Rambo’s gunning for boss not to go
black armbands they were due to don out of respect following last Monday night’s terror attack in Manchester.
That was rectified at half-time – and so was Chelsea’s form.
They were more like the champions from the start of the second period and Ospina had to make saves to deny N’Golo Kante and Moses.
Pedro then sent a well-struck effort inches wide.
But that was after an Arsenal breakaway raid which could have brought them a second goal.
Sanchez released a magnificent pass which sent Hector Bellerin sprinting clear but the wing-back failed to find Ramsey with his cross – to the obvious frustration of Wenger.
Bellerin was then denied by Courtois before Chelsea were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half.
Moses, already yellow-carded for a foul on Welbeck 11 minutes earlier, was shown a red for blatantly diving in an attempt to win a penalty. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was next to him but there was no contact.
But Antonio Conte’s depleted troops hit back 14 minutes from time when Costa chested the ball down and saw his right-foot shot take a slight deflection off Mertesacker on its way into the corner of the Arsenal net. The Gunners, though, were back in front three minutes later. Sanchez found substitute Olivier Giroud, who had been on the pitch only a mattter of seconds in another inspired move from Wenger, and the France striker crossed perfectly for Ramsey to score with a diving header from close to the penalty spot. But there was still time for Colombia international Ospina to make a vital save from Costa and for Ozil to hit the post for Arsenal. AARON RAMSEY celebrated lifting the FA Cup at the double yesterday – three years after scoring the late winner to beat Hull in the final at Wembley.
This time Rambo’s diving header disposed of champions Chelsea in a remarkable 90 minutes at the home of English football.
Alexis Sanchez scored the opener for Arsenal before Diego Costa equalised.
Ramsey, though, was not going to be denied being another glorious match-winner.
And with it, the Arsenal star opened his heart on his boss Arsene Wenger who won a record seventh FA Cup to rename it Arsene Wembley!
Ramsey, 26, said: “Of course, I want Arsene to stay. He’s been fantastic for me, fantastic for the players.
“Hopefully he will still be here next season because we all owe him a lot. I can’t describe this. It has to be a successful season for us to win. “And to get the winner again, I really love this cup competition.
“I’m happy for the manager to get another FA Cup win. “I’m delighted. I love to make late runs in the box and thankfully Olivier Giroud put it on a plate for me to get the winner.”
Danny Welbeck was equally pleased but would not get involved in the speculation over Wenger’s future.
Welbeck said: “It was a great performance. We stuck in there when they equalised.
“We dug deep and Rambo got us the goal and we won. We have got the FA Cup again.
“It’s not for us to make a decision about the manager. He’s his own man. It’s down to them, the club. I really can’t comment on that.”
Gunners old boy Ian Wright said: “You have to say the way they play no one fancied Arsenal but they have done it.”
