GAME OF THE SEASON Chelsea’s charge to the title started with a first-half hammering at Arsenal on September 24. They were trailing 3-0 when manager Antonio Conte decided he had seen enough and switched to a back three. The rest is history. MOMENT OF THE SEASON Forget the ethics of it – Chelsea players forming a guard of honour to cheer legend John Terry off the field in his final league game for the club. The purists booed it. Fans loved it. Football is showbiz. GOAL OF THE SEASON You would not call him agile or athletic but the way Andy Carroll lifted his often-injured body off the floor to score a sensational scissor-kick from 12 yards out against Crystal Palace in January defied logic and physics. A wonderful moment. BEST SIGNING OF THE SEASON Got to be Manchester United signing old warrior Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored for fun until his injury. You wonder how many he might have finished with. Not bad for a veteran of 35. His DNA should be bottled. WORST SIGNING OF THE SEASON Moussa Sissoko (left). Bought by Spurs for £30million from Newcastle, played just 13 games and did not score once. He was also banned for three games after elbowing Bournemouth’s Harry Arter. No wonder boss Mauricio Pochettino admitted the player “failed to live up to expectations”. QUOTE OF THE SEASON “I was close to clocking a few,” – Bradford manager Stuart McCall after being goaded by Millwall fans who had invaded Wembley’s pitch following their 1-0 League One Play-Off final. Should have done. PLAYER TO WATCH 2017-18 Fulham’s teenage left-back Ryan Sessegnon, 17. Much sought-after by big clubs, the England U17s youngster became the first player born after the millennium to score in the English pro leagues.
