CHELSEA’S MATCH RATINGS
THIBAUT COURTOIS
FIRST touch was to clutch a cross. Second to lift the ball out of his net. Often in action, thankful for a post twice to also help him out. Not one of his commanding displays.
CESAR AZPILICUETA
GREAT going forward in league but when needed to defend found wanting. And clumsy, particularly against Sanchez. Has played every minute of season and looked tired.
DAVID LUIZ
WAS also given a torrid evening by that man Sanchez. Took time to find his famed radar-accurate passes. Came alive in the second half but not his usual self.
GARY CAHILL
ALWAYS steady. Twice cleared off the line in the first half as Sanchez and Co ran riot, although Welbeck’s pace caused him headaches. Kept Chelsea in the game.
VICTOR MOSES
HAD a dismal day. Sent off for two yellow cards. First for fouling Welbeck then a second for diving. Forced to funnel back and help his defence. Often guilty of a wayward pass.
N’GOLO KANTE
CHELSEA’S enforcer was overwhelmed at the start by Arsenal’s relentless attacks. Eventually got his act together and fired Chelsea’s first shot on target – after 48 minutes!
NEMANJA MATIC
WAS Chelsea’s early rock when Arsenal threatened to rip them apart. Kept blocking then surging forward but failed to find openings and eventually replaced by Fabregas.
MARCOS ALONSO
ARSENAL’S tactics of playing wide cut short his wing dashes. Was forced to roll up his sleeves and help curb the threat of Bellerin’s attacking bursts.
PEDRO
SPEEDY Gonzalez was often Chelsea’s main threat. His pace avoided tackles and created openings but Arsenal’s defence held firm. Replaced by Willian.
DIEGO COSTA
MADE his mark early. Was soon wrestling with Rob Holding and always menacing. Never controlled. Niggled away and equalised. Denied a second by super save.
EDEN HAZARD
DID NOT truly burst into action until the 14th minute. Struggled to get service. But persistence paid off and eventually attacked with his usual venom.
