Hospital junkie gown and out

- by FELICITY CROSS

A DESPERATE junkie strolls barefoot down the street in a hospital gown on her way to buy drugs.

Neighbours passed the shocking snap to the Daily Star Sunday to highlight the extent of substance abuse in Britain’s suburbs.

The woman, who appears to be in her thirties, was spotted approaching a known drugs den.

The property is said to be visited at all hours by junkies. Often so many turn up looking for “gear” they have to form a queue.

We have chosen to not reveal the location but can say that it is on the outskirts of one of Britain’s largest cities. The den is now under police surveillance. Locals believe the dealer sells a range of hard drugs including heroin. One resident told us: “There are people there day and night. When I saw the woman in her hospital gown I was just sickened to my stomach.

“Someone checking out of hospital and going straight to their dealer is as shocking as it gets really, but it’s the same all over the country.

“This is a nice area with families and professionals, but there is this stream of addicts calling at all hours.”

Deaths from drug use have almost doubled in the last ten years, with 2,479 fatalities recorded in 2015. There were 15,074 hospital admissions with a primary diagnosis of poisoning by illicit drugs, according to government figures.

A report stated “deaths related to drug misuse are at their highest level since comparable records began in 1993.”
