Ace Andy’s full of praise for ‘amazing’ fans ahead of SW19 title defence

- by HARRY PRATT

ANDY MURRAY has hailed the unwavering support of the great British public. Despite the recent terror attacks in London and Manchester, the centre court stands at Queen’s, Nottingham and Eastbourne have been packed in recent weeks. And with huge crowds expected at the All England Club over the next fortnight, defending Wimbledon champion Murray has nothing but praise for our resilient sport-mad nation. The world No.1 said: “I have been very lucky to compete at Queen’s and Wimbledon over the years and the crowds are ALWAYS amazing, with all these people showing up to support us. “But I feel very lucky, with everything that’s been going on recently, that people still come out to support the players. “They come to enjoy a day out, having fun with friends and family, and hopefully being entertained by the tennis they see.

“We’re very fortunate to be in that position and it’s important to remind yourself of that.

“We sometimes live in our own little bubble on tour, where we think just about how well we’re playing or how the serve is going.

“But there are obviously many more things far more important than our tennis.”

Murray’s hopes of securing a Wimbledon hat-trick – and a fourth Grand Slam title – have been rocked by an early exit at Queen’s and a sore hip.

But even if the home hero and top seed fails to defend his crown, he is convinced the SW19 masses will still have a good time.

Modest Muzza, 30, added: “Obviously, they’re not just here to watch me they’re here to see all of these amazing players.”
