SHOPAHOLIC KATIE HAS INVESTMENT PLAN

-

WIMBLEDON rookie and self-confessed shopaholic Katie Boulter will resist a spending spree after being gifted the biggest payday of her career.

The British No.6, 20, has a guaranteed £35,000 after earning a wildcard entry into the SW19 tournament.

And there is potential for more rewards to follow if she makes it a winning debut against American Christina McHale on Tuesday.

But Boulter is vowing to plough the earnings into her career in a bid to boost her 235th-in-the-world ranking spot all the way to the very top.

The girl from Leicester said: “Ultimately I want to be world No.1.

“I’m going to work as hard as I possibly can to become that.”

Boulter has welcomed the cash injection that comes with her first Wimbledon showing.

She has earned £50,000 in prize money so far in her career and is now hoping to avoid relying on wildcards and hand-outs in the future as she looks to break into the world’s top 100.

“I think shopaholic sums me up,” she said.

“I think the money can make a huge difference.

“I’m going to be putting that money back into my tennis and I want to be able to travel with a coach.

“I think it’s a gamechanger when it comes to prize money. Obviously I want to win some rounds and you get some more money but the majority is going to go into my tennis.”

Boulter reached the biggest final of her career in Kurume, Japan, recently, losing out to her pal and ex-Wimbledon junior champion Laura Robson.

She said: “I’ve become a little bit closer to her now, she’s a good friend.

“Laura’s an amazing player and she works really hard so it’s good to get exposure to being around her.”
