Julien is just so gr-eight for Mac

-

DOUBLE: Reynolds JULIE STOTT Catalans 38 Leigh 36 JULIEN BOUSQUET gave Steve McNamara his first win and kept alive the Dragons’ hopes of sneaking into the top eight.

But it was harsh on bottom side Leigh who led from the sixth minute to the 70th and then again for the closing minutes through a Ben Reynolds penalty.

There was no stopping Bousquet, though, as he charged over with just seconds left.

The sensational Dragons’ win got referee Gareth Hewer off the hook for two first-half blunders, one an absolute howler.

Hewer ruled Leigh sub Sam Hopkins had scored, after a pass from Ben Crooks, without consulting the video referee.

But replays showed Crooks had pushed Fouad Yaha and put a foot in touch as he collected a loose ball before passing.

Three minutes later Hopkins went over for his second and this time it was on the back of a controversial penalty.

Catalans, who had lost playmaker Richie Myler with a serious shoulder injury, were furious having just fought their way back into the game.

Leigh raced into an 18-0 lead after only 17 minutes with tries from Matty Dawson, Danny Tickle and Reynolds, who converted all three.

But the Dragons hit back with two tries in five minutes from Jodie Broughton and Mickael Simon to cut the lead to six points.

Leigh’s lucky two tries, for a 28-12 half-time lead, could easily have seen Dragons’ heads go down.

Instead they came out firing with a vengeance.

After Crooks and Greg Bird were sin-binned for fighting Catalans full-back Tony Gigot took the game by the scruff of the neck.

He created a try for Yaha and helped send in Vincent Duport, with Luke Walsh converting the first to cut the gap to six.

Again it looked like the home side would get on top and again Leigh responded well with a Reynolds try and goal.

Catalans dug in and levelled with 10 minutes left thanks to converted tries from Sam Moa and Justin Horo.

Reynolds looked to have claimed an unlikely win with a 73rd-minute penalty but Bousquet had the final word.
