Bruno & Travolta hit Fever pitch
JOHN Travolta’s latest project will see him working alongside Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli.
The pair will appear on a documentary about hit film Saturday Night Fever for the BBC. In 1977 the musical, set in Brooklyn in the US, became a box office smash and turned Travolta into a global sex symbol. It was nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs.
The one-off TV special ED GLEAVE will mark the 40th anniversary of its release and is expected to air on the BBC later this year. Bruno last night confirmed plans for the show to the Daily Star Sunday.
He said: “I have been over in Brooklyn filming the documentary. It will be for the BBC. And Travolta will do his bit – I’ve already met him.”
Beeb chiefs reckon they will have a hit on their hands with the show. A source said: “The film is easily one of the most iconic musicals ever, so commissioning this was a no-brainer.”
Bruno was picked to front it because he is friends with John and his wife Kelly.
He added: “They are both fantastic people. They’re the nicest people you could ever meet. I saw them at the Emmys earlier this year. And I have worked with John’s wife in the past – I worked with Kelly a long time ago on a film with Colin Firth.” BBC bosses are hoping to use fans’ favourite Bruno in more shows.
Our source carried on: “Bruno is so popular with viewers and he has got such an infectious personality. “But he’s also an expert in dance, so he has the knowledge to work on a show like this.”
