‘SHE MUST RESCHEDULE’
THE Script’s Danny O’Donoghue reckons Adele must reschedule her axed Wembley dates in order to avoid a backlash from furious fans. I can exclusively reveal the band’s frontman was unable to speak for two months after undergoing career-threatening vocal surgery. Danny feared he would never be able to sing again when surgeons diagnosed the same condition which threatened Adele’s career. But while the former The Voice coach sympathises with Adele for having to cancel her gigs, he said there was no excuse for her not performing the dates in future. He said: “It would be bad if Adele didn’t reschedule the dates, her fans deserve that at the very least. The reason I’ve probably ended up needing surgery is I’ve always tried to perform no matter what.
“We have only ever cancelled one show and we moved that date immediately to the end of the tour.
“As a singer there’s sometimes you just can’t perform, especially when you have an incredible voice like Adele’s, but there’s no valid reason for not rescheduling.”
Revealing his own vocal nightmares, Danny added: “There’s that second before the operation when you are signing the disclaimer and you do worry your career is over.
“At the end of the day they are taking a blade to your throat.
“There’s a 99 per cent chance you will be fine but there’s a one per cent chance you won’t be.
“I just kept thinking only one per cent of bands make it in the first place so I could easily be the one per cent where surgery goes wrong.” Established as one of Ireland’s most successful bands, The Script are back promoting new single Rain and upcoming album Freedom Child. But Danny said: “I did wonder whether I’d be able to make the record. “I had two months where I couldn’t say a single word. I couldn’t drink, smoke, eat spicy foods. It was total hell. “I had a little app which had a voice on it.
“I had to write things down and it would speak the words out loud for me. It was a really scary, crazy time.
“The relief when you can finally talk and sing again is incredible. I got really emotional just hearing the sound of my own voice.
“It sounds dramatic but just speaking again after two months of not being able to was emotional.”
