POT YUCK IN PRISON
PRISON officers fear a disease outbreak after a surge in spitting and “potting” assaults against staff.
Figures show the disgusting attacks have hit record levels.
Spitting incidents have gone up by 83% in two years and potting – throwing urine and faeces over officers – has risen 76%.
Glyn Travis, of the Prison Officers Association, said: “There is an epidemic of these incidents. Both carry the risk of disease.”
Outbreaks of hepatitis B and potentially deadly hepatitis C are feared. Human faeces can spread both cholera and dysentery.
Use of dangerous liquids, like scalding water and sugar – known as napalm – also increased, Ministry of Justice figures show.
