Wayne on the mark once more

- By PAUL BARNES

WAYNE ROONEY scored his second goal since rejoining Everton as Ronald Koeman’s side were held to a draw by Genk.

Manchester United and England’s record scorer had marked his first appearance back in a Toffees shirt with a strike against Gor Mahia earlier this month.

And he was on target again at the Luminus Arena yesterday.

He produced a neat first-time finish at the back post just before half-time following a cross from Sandro Ramirez.

Rooney later took the captain’s armband when Leighton Baines left the pitch.

New £30million goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made his first appearance for Everton, as did Sandro.

Pickford kept a clean sheet before being replaced by Maarten Stekelenburg, who conceded the equaliser.

Genk’s leveller came 10 minutes after Rooney’s goal.

Striker Ally Samatta equalised for the Belgian side, smashing in from close range after Cuco Martina’s poor header, and he was unlucky not to give them the lead shortly afterwards.

Stekelenburg pulled off a brilliant save to tip a diving header on to the crossbar.
