MEET The Parents gets a racial twist in this excellent horror from US comic Jordan Peele. African American Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) is invited to stay with the rich parents of his new white girlfriend (Allison Williams). He’s worried she hasn’t told them he is black but she tries to reassure him. Early encounters are played for icky laughs as dad clumsily shows off his liberal credentials, then Chris notices the blank faces of their robotic black servants... Horror comedies are difficult to pull off, but rookie Peele expertly lashes the chills and the laughs together.
