SELBY SCRAP IS ON FRAMPTON RADAR

- ■ by NICK PARKINSON

CARL FRAMPTON has put Lee Selby’s name on his hit list after admitting he could quit by the end of 2018.

The Belfast boxer, 30, fights in his home city for the first time since February 2015 in a non-title bout against Andres Gutierrez on Saturday.

Frampton (right) is looking to set up a big fight later this year after losing his WBA world featherweight title on points to Leo Santa Cruz in January.

Victory over Mexican Gutierrez will earn The Jackal a crack at American Gary Russell Jr, who holds the WBC strap.

But he would prefer a shot at Welshman Selby, who defended his IBF title with a win over Jonathan Barros last weekend four days after his mum died.

Frampton is desperate to face Santa Cruz before hanging up his gloves. He said: “Selby is a fight that intrigues me because he’s class. “His performance was unbelievable last Saturday, given the circumstances. “I don’t think I would have been strong enough to do that. Mentally he’s a very strong fighter. “Hopefully we can get it done by the end of the year and the Santa Cruz fight has to happen at some point. “It’s one-one, two very close fights and you can’t really leave it at that. “I’ve maybe five or six fights left. “Maybe squeeze two in this year and three next year and maybe that’s it.”
