JAMES GUY has vowed to impress when he defends his World Championships title in Budapest after disappointing at the Rio Olympics.

The Bury swimmer, 21, entered his first Olympics as world champion in the 200 metres freestyle and had been tipped to open Britain’s Rio medal account in the 400m freestyle on the opening day of the Games.

But Guy finished sixth over eight lengths and then fourth over four, before digging deep to take silver medals in the 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays.

“I didn’t do what I wanted to do out there,” Guy said. “To get two medals is great but I wanted to do more in the individual events.

“But I’ve buried it and moved on and I’m now looking to the future.”
