Pett shop boy’s pride
ASSISTANT PRO Gregg Pettersen should have been flogging chocolate bars and fizzy pop in the Royal Birkdale pro shop yesterday morning.
Instead, he got a phone call on Friday night to tell him he was playing as the marker for South African Shaun Norris, who hit a magnificent 65 in the first game of the day. Pettersen (left) cannot recall what he shot but he’ll never forget the experience of playing The Open alongside the game’s superstars before heading back behind the shop counter.
He said: “It was just surreal. I’ve been here for 15 years as a professional but never played in front of that sort of crowd.”
