Mick left feeling sick as Charlton hit six

IT could be a tough season ahead for Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich after they suffered a 6-1 hammering at Charlton.

Patrick Bauer, Tarique Fosu and Josh Magennis’ double gave the home side a 4-0 half-time lead.

Ricky Holmes scored twice after the break, either side of an Andre Dozzell consolatio­n.

Brentford saw off Celta Vigo, with Lasse Vibe putting the Bees ahead before Jota (right) scored a free-kick against his old club gave them a two-goal lead at the break.

John Guidetti replied for Celta but the home side held on for a 2-1 win.

There was late penalty drama for Burton, losing 1-0 at Shrewsbury after Shaun Whalley’s spot-kick five minutes from time.

Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim stole a 2-1 win at Derby.

Matej Vydra’s late equaliser gave the home side some hope after an earlier Bradley Johnson penalty miss but Sandro Wagner smashed home a late winner. Lukas Rupp had put the visitors ahead in the first half.

There were also German celebratio­ns at Fulham, as Wolfsburg won 3-0.

Mario Gomez struck twice in the closing stages to add to John Brooks’ first-half header.

Kemar Roofe and Stuart Dallas scored for Leeds in their 2-0 home win over Oxford.

A late comeback at Reading was not enough for the home side, as they lost 3-2 to Vitesse Arnhem.

Sam Smith’s penalty and Adrian Popa’s strike reduced a three-goal deficit after Tim Matavz scored either side of the break following Bryan Linssen’s opener.

Jamie Proctor hit a second-half hat-trick to help Rotherham to a 4-0 win over Barnsley.

Kieffer Moore added the icing on the cake with a last-minute goal.

Millwall beat La Liga side Granada in a 3-0 win, with Jed Wallace, Shaun Williams and Aiden O’Brien the scorers.
