22 caught in Shagaluf public romps
VISITORS FINED IN BLITZ ON SEX IN STREETS
TWENTY-TWO people have been fined for having sex in public in Magaluf this summer.
Police issued the on-the-spot penalties – as much as £2,700 – to al-fresco lovers as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour by holidaymakers.
Magaluf – nicknamed Shagaluf due to the amount of bawdy antics that go on there – has been trying to clean up its image with new laws targeting drunken behaviour.
Calvia Town Hall, which overseas police in the resort, released figures showing that in June and July, 22 people were fined for having sex in the street, while 52 fines were handed out for public nakedness.
A police source said: “We’re taking a zero-tolerance approach to this kind of anti-social behaviour, which is unacceptable and ruins holidays for decent people.”
It’s the latest in a long line of seedy sex embarrassments for the holiday hotspot.
In 2014 a teenager from Northern Ireland was filmed performing sex acts on multiple men in a bar.
The girl, who was 18 at the time, was promised a holiday – but was actually given a free drink.
Bars were found to be hosting live sex shows, and booze cruises were exposed for luring men on board with the promise of sex because “women can’t get away”.
Officials have brought in 64 new laws in a bid to clean up the Majorcan resort.
The list of crimes carry varying fines, depending on whether they are considered minor (£90-540), serious
(£540-1,350) or very serious (£1,350
2,700).
Recently, 18 Brits were each fined £180 for streaking along the seafront, and 46 were fined for breaches of public security.
Local police have also been cracking down on street sellers peddling tat to holidaymakers, fining 651 people in June.
Officials say many street traders in the resort are also involved in drug dealing.
Police arrested 18 drug dealers in June and July, they said.
