Charlie’s last days ‘a soap’

-

A MEDIC who treated Charlie Gard has said the baby’s last days were turned into a soap opera.

The clinician said the tot was only kept alive for people such as Donald Trump and the Pope.

And she said doctors had no choice but to decide that “enough was enough”.

The anonymous medic said she was part of the team who cared for terminally-ill Charlie at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

She said: “Like all of the staff who work in our unit, I loved this child to bits.”

But she said it was their “moral obligation” to say “enough is enough”.

The health worker said by the end Charlie was being kept alive only because of his celebrity backers.

She added: “Recently, we did this for Donald Trump, the Pope and Boris Johnson, who suddenly knew more about mitochondrial diseases than our expert consultants.”

Charlie died on July 28, days before his first birthday. Parents Chris Gard and Connie told of his final moments. Connie said: “Charlie opened his eyes and looked at us one last time, and closed them before he passed away.” AN animal-mad family have landed their very own zoo.

Dean Tweedy, 48, and his wife Tracy, from Kent, snapped up Animalarium Borth Zoo, which is home to more than 300 animals including lions, in Ceredigion.

And the father-ofthree said: “It’s a dream come true for the kids.”
