Steve: My Kingdom for a-ha’s

-

ALAN Partridge creator Steve Coogan is working on a film about the discovery of Richard III’s remains.

The movie will tell how the body of the last Plantagenet king was found under a city centre car park.

Richard was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. He is thought to have said: “My kingdom for a horse,” before being cut down.

His skeleton was found in 2012 in Leicester during a dig led by historian Philippa Langley.

It has now emerged that actor Coogan toured the nearby Richard III visitor centre with writer Jeff Pope earlier this year.

Martin Traynor from the centre said: “It looks like they were doing a recce and some research.

“To be honest, Richard’s discovery was such an amazing story someone was eventually going to write a story about it.”

He added: “Steve Coogan is a really funny comedian and it will be interesting to see what he does with it.

“It will be fantastic profile for the city and the centre if the film goes ahead.

“I do hope, however, that they stick as closely as possible to the facts of what happened.”

Explaining the film plot, Coogan said: “Really, that’s about the amateur versus the Establishment, and intuition versus academia.

“Partly, she does her research, partly it’s intuitive.”

He also revealed he will bring back radio host Partridge – known for his catchphrase “a-ha!” – next year as the “voice of Hard Brexit”.
