POP RIVALS READY TO SQUARE OFF
TIME to order in the popcorn and tune in to this year’s VMAs as pop music’s biggest rivals Katy Perry and Taylor Swift get set for a bitchfest showdown.
The bitter enemies are expected to come face-to-face at this month’s MTV Video Music Awards – in what organisers are calling a “logistical nightmare”.
Katy, who has five nominations, is hosting this year’s ceremony and is expected to sing Swish Swish – her diss track aimed at Taylor.
But according to sources Taylor wants to steal Katy’s thunder by exclusively performing her big comeback single – despite not being nominated for anything.
My US snitch said: “Taylor’s getting ready to return with new music and believes the VMAs could be the perfect place to do it.
“Discussions are currently ongoing with organisers who, despite knowing it will be a huge ratings winner, are calling it a logistical nightmare.
“With Katy hosting they know it will be virtually impossible to keep them apart.
“But while VMA bosses are secretly thrilled at the prospect of the arch-enemies being on stage together, Katy is rumoured to be fuming.”
Katy and Taylor’s longrunning dispute is one of music’s biggest-ever feuds.
The former BFF’s fell out back in 2012 when Taylor accused Katy of trying to “sabotage an entire arena tour” by attempting to “hire a bunch of people from under me”.
If you believe Team Perry (and the dancers in question seem to have corroborated her version of events), Katy loaned Taylor her dancers who Ms Swift then refused to give back. Rumours suggest Katy dating Taylor’s ex certainly didn’t help! Since then we’ve had Taylor’s Bad Blood written about Katy, while Taylor’s ex has publicly backed Katy.
If the Shake It Off singer does show up it wouldn’t be the first time she’s been accused of trying to overshadow her old pal Katy. She made her music available for free online on the same day Katy released her new album, Witness. My source added: “If Taylor does sign up it will be unmissable viewing.”
