CRACKER KIM’S ON ROUTE 66

- ■ by PHIL GIRVAN

IN-KYUNG KIM carded a superb 66 to open up a six-stroke leading heading into the final day of the Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns.

England’s Georgia Hall and Thailan’s Moriya Jutanugarn are the nearest challengers to the South Korean on 11 under par.

But the round of the day came from Kim’s compatriot Inbee Park who rocketed up the leaderboard with eight birdies to finish with a brilliant 64.

At that stage she was within one stroke of overnight leader Kim on 10-under at the Scottish course on the Fife coast.

Park narrowly missed a long birdie putt on the 18th that would have put her in the joint lead before Kim had even teed off for her third round.

The Olympic champion, bidding for a second British Open title after her 2015 triumph, began the day at two under and birdied her opening two holes. She picked up three more shots before the turn and birdied the 11th, 13th and

17th to post an eight-under round.

She is joined on 10 under by Ally McDonald while another American Stacy Lewis, the winner in 2013, also took advantage of the relatively kind conditions with a seven-under

65 to end on nine under after her three rounds. She finished with four consecutive birdies.

England’s Mel Reid and Jodi Ewart Shadoff are among six women on eight under.
