TUFFERS TAKES HIS HAT OFF TO KING OF SWING

- by STEVE MILLAR

CRICKET legend Phil Tufnell is bowled over by Jimmy Anderson having a stand named after him at his second home of Old Trafford. And he hopes Anderson flying in from the James Anderson End will be a sight for sore opponents’ eyes for many years to come. Anderson, at 35, wants to play for England for at least another two and celebrate winning the Ashes this winter. Tuffers (below) applauds that commitment and ambition as he pays tribute to one of our greatest ever fast bowlers who made his debut for Lancashire back in 2002. Tufnell, 51, said: “That’s a brilliant tribute to Jimmy. Top wicket-taker for England. Fantastic swing bowler, probably the best we have ever had and the master of his art. “Now he’s having the pleasure of bowling at his own end and that’s incredible. “It’s such a proud occasion for him and all his family and I think a great tribute from Old Trafford and Lancashire to name that stand after him. It doesn’t get any better than that. “What an honour! He’s very well liked, very well respected. “I’m looking forward to the Ashes. We’ve got this game against South Africa, then West Indies and I’m sure he’s going to be looking forward to going Down Under.” When the Burnley Express hits the buffers for the last time, Tufnell and the rest of the cricket world will be left with heavy hearts. He added: “I’m not sure how long him and Broady have got but they’re still very fit and at the top of their game. “Jimmy has been a great servant for England. A true professional who has got better and better as he’s got older. “When he goes, it’s going to be a huge miss.”
