Farke’s not in the dark over role of set-pieces
DANIEL FARKE already understands just how important set-pieces are in the English game.
The new Norwich boss takes charge of his first home game today as relegated Sunderland visit Carrow Road.
German Farke left his job as Borussia Dortmund’s reserve team boss to test himself in the Championship.
Norwich and Sunderland both started out with a draw last week, the Black Cats at home to Derby and Farke’s side at Fulham, before registering midweek wins in the Carabao Cup.
And the Canaries boss knows the key to getting the better of Simon Grayson’s team is a strong defensive display and dealing well with corners and free-kicks.
“Sunderland have a lot of potential with good individual players,” he said.
“They defend robustly and it will be hard work for us.
“We’ve been working on defending from set-pieces this week.
“The guys know they have to improve that.”
Farke is also talking up the togetherness of his side, even taking into account Nelson Oliveira’s passionate reaction to being left on the bench at Fulham.
The striker took his shirt off and offered it to his manager after netting when he was eventually brought on in the
64th minute with the score
1-0 to the home side.
“We have such a good attitude and atmosphere in the whole group,” he said.
“That’s our real strength, we have such a wonderful group of players.
“Steven Naismith asked to play and train with the
Under-23s because of his suspension.
“I like that attitude. “Each and every player, and every staff member has to be thankful to work for this club. It’s a great honour to work for Norwich City.”
Sunderland head south buoyed by a first win under Grayson at Bury.
George Honeyman’s goal was enough to see off Lee Clark’s Shakers and one of the club’s summer signings thinks good times lie ahead under the former Preston North End manager.
“I think the manager has brought a lot of positivity into the changing room and that’s exactly what we needed, to be honest,” said on-loan defender Tyias Browning.
“There was a bit of chins on the chests but that’s out the window now and we can push on.”
