JACOBS’ Crackers

Five-time Naps Table champ Moorestyle’s best bets…

-

SUNDAY SERVICE COUGAR MOUNTAIN can make his class count when he runs in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh (4.10) today.

Aidan O’Brien’s charge has not raced over six furlongs since finishing 12th of 17 in the Haydock Sprint Cup in 2014 but he has such a high cruising speed that the drop in trip should not prove a problem.

Third in the Minstrel Stakes over seven furlongs last time out, the six-year-old is taken to see off the challenges of stablemate Washington

DC and the consistent Mr Lupton.

The feature Keeneland Phoenix

Stakes (3.35) could well produce a minor shock in the form of ROMANISED.

An emphatic winner of his maiden at Navan in April, the son of Holy Roman Emperor fell out of the stalls in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and came home a never nearer seventh.

I know connections feel he is better than that run suggests and he can bounce back against the likes of the unbeaten Beckford and Sioux Nation.

The ground is bound to be tacky at both Windsor and Leicester following the heavy midweek rain and that is likely to suit outsider REPERCUSSION (4.00) at the Berkshire track.

The drop back to a mile should also suit the selection and he remains relatively unexposed.

Later THAHAB IFRAJ can make the most of the weight he receives from Maroc in the 5.05, while the best wager at Leicester could well be RED TROOPER on his turf debut in the 3.10.

HOT TO TROT

It was great to see Edward Greatrex (below) riding a winner for Godolphin and even though he was on the best horse in the race he got the fractions spot on with HIGH END at Wolverhampton last week and there is plenty more to come from both horse and jockey. CASTERBRIDGE ran way too freely with the first-time blinkers on at Haydock over six furlongs in midweek.

Much better forcing the pace over 5f, he could well be eligible for 0-70 sprints.

ANTE-POST

Far be it for me to question Sir Michael Stoute but why did he run QUEEN’S TRUST on soft ground in the Nassau Stakes when her top-five career runs have come on fast ground?

Granted a fast surface at York she could be a live outsider in the International at York at 16-1.
