Unhappy Diego’s missing

LET’S MAKE IT WEL EASY

DIEGO COSTA has gone AWOL from Chelsea.

Despite being told by manager Antonio Conte that he is no longer in his plans, the Chelsea striker was still due to report for pre-season training a fortnight ago.

He also still has the No.19 number in the champions’ squad for the new season.

But as far as Chelsea are concerned, Costa has simply not turned up and it is understood that he is not in the right physical condition to play.

There has been talk of a legal case over Costa’s bust-up with Conte.

But at the very least a disciplinary issue has arisen.

The Daily Star Sunday understands that the Brazilian-born Spain striker is now facing a club fine.

Chelsea insist Costa, 28, was told in January that he would not be in Conte’s plans this season.

But he was still expected to report back and get fit, pending a transfer before the window for moves closes at the end of this month. DANNY WELBECK has praised the team spirit Arsenal showed in their enthralling win over Leicester on Friday night.

But he wants the Gunners to make things a bit easier for themselves in future.

Arsene Wenger’s side eventually ran out 4-3 winners in an explosive clash at The Emirates.

Alexandre Lacazette marked his league debut for Arsenal with a goal in the just second minute.

But Shinji Okazaki levelled less than three minutes later and Jamie Vardy struck twice either side of Welbeck’s equaliser as the Foxes looked set for a first league win over Arsenal since 1983.

But substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud struck late on to seal the points.

Welbeck (above) said: “Obviously for the neutral it would have been great watching it from the outside.

“For us it was a bit disappointing with the goals we’ve let in and we shouldn’t really be conceding in that way.

“But we showed great determination and great togetherness to get back into the game and eventually win it.”

Arsenal shipped three goals but were without three of their first-choice defenders as Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi all sat the match out due to a combination of fitness issues and bans.

And once they are back Welbeck is hoping the Gunners can make it a bit smoother for themselves.

“That’s what we are aiming to do,” he added.

“We wanted to do it easier this time but unfortunately that didn’t happen.

“It’s something where we can look back and analyse the game and see where we went wrong and then improve on the situation.”
