It’s high horse for Belinda

-

POP star Belinda Carlisle has told how she bought a horse after getting high on cocaine at a race track.

The Heaven Is A Place On Earth star spent 30 years hooked on the drug.

Belinda, 58, said: “When I started to make money I went a bit crazy.

“Once I went to the race track and woke up the next morning owning a horse.

“I’d been drinking, doing drugs and betting and it seemed like a good idea.”

The singer, who founded all-girl band The Go-Go’s in the 1970s, said she “can’t believe I’m not dead” after three decades of cocaine addiction.

She added: “I should actually look like the Phantom of the Opera with just two holes in the front of my face.”

Carlisle finally overcame drink and drugs when she was 47.

She even took her son James to rehab with her in 2005 after learning that addiction can be “genetic”.

She wanted the lad, who was then aged 13, to learn about the consequences of substance abuse in case he inherited her demons.

She said: “He felt it was good for him to understand the nature of the beast.” PARENTS typically spend nearly £175 getting a child ready for the new school year.

That’s £12 down on last year, suggesting some families are feeling the pinch.

Grandparents are also being asked to chip in, with 11% of mums and dads planning to ask the older generation for help, says Nationwide.
