HIGH-FLYING BLUEBIRDS STAY TOP

-

back across goal, Barry Douglas let fly with a fierce drive that was deflected home from two yards by Bonatini.

Despite surrendering their advantage, Cardiff rallied and Mendez-Laing secured the victory thanks to a neat through ball from Zohore. He raced on to the pass and drilled an unstoppable drive beyond the despairing dive of Ruddy to end Wolves’ 100 per cent record.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock, who has started the season with four successive league wins for the first time in his career, was delighted with his side’s display.

He said: “It was a cracking game, a typical Championship match. Two sides really having a go at each other. We didn’t come to defend, we came to attack as much as we could really.

“To have that kick in the teeth of conceding the equaliser and then to come back and play some good stuff, probably enjoy our best spell, showed what we are about.

“We won as a team today. No stars, just a very good team performance.”

Meanwhile, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo was less than impressed with the way referee Scott Duncan handled Damour’s challenge on Saiss near the end the first-half. “One of the things that we have to analyse is the referee,” he said. “If the referee allows these situations to happen without punishing them then teams are going to do that.

“I saw an elbow in the neck of Saiss. Cardiff’s game plan was to be aggressive. We made too many mistakes for a team that wants to be strong.

“I will never change the way that we play. “If you want to build something you cannot for one minute have a doubt about what you have been doing.

“What makes you strong is how you get up from the big punches that you get.”
