In Albert Square, while popular cop’s Aussie exit draws near

BACK in 2015 they told the Daily Star Sunday they could become the new Phil and Grant… And as actors Harry Reid and Jamie Borthwick fight it out as warring “bruvvers” Ben and Jay Mitchell, it looks like they were right.

During tomorrow night’s special two-hander episode, Jay’s world is turned upside down when hardman Phil makes a shocking confession – he was responsible for the death of Jay’s dad. As viewers know, Jase Dyer was murdered by a gang of vicious thugs back in 2008 as Billy Mitchell hid in the bathroom.

Phil became Jay’s legal guardian but following the confession the heartbroken lad is set to turn his back on the Mitchells – even Ben. Confused Ben demands to know what’s going on but when Jay tells him they are no longer “bruvvers” the two end up in a fight. An Albert Square insider told us: “Phil’s confession leaves Jay devastated.

“He has always looked up to Phil as a father figure and even changed his surname to become a Mitchell. “So to learn Phil was responsible for his dad’s death is heartbreaking for him. There is also the matter of Phil handing over the car lot to Jay out of guilt.”

During the emotional episode, Jay tells Phil he wants nothing more to do with him – or any of the Mitchells.

Our source added: “Ben has no idea why Jay is acting so cold towards him and, like Phil and Grant have done many times before them, the pair end up in a vicious fight.”

BBC One viewers will be able to watch the scrap between Ben and Jay this Thursday.
