Butler’s served a scare

- ■ by

JACK UTTLEY Warrington 22 Halifax 8 CHESTER BUTLER came in from the cold for parttimers Halifax and put the frighteners on Warrington.

The winger, who has missed 19 games, only found out on Friday night he was playing because of injuries.

But he hit the ground running with two terrific tries to make it a tough afternoon for Super 8s Qualifiers leaders Wolves.

His second was a super effort, showing great strength to shake off a Tom Lineham tackle before touching down.

Butler said: “I have not been playing so I wanted to get out there and have a good dig. The team is really motivated and enthusiastic.

“We were playing against a full-time team, and we work and do not have as much fitness, so it was a great effort.”

Peta Hiku put Warrington ahead with the opening try. But Butler’s first try made it 4-4 at half-time and the Super League outfit knew they had a fight on their hands.

Chris Hill barged over to wrestle back the lead for the home side but the underdogs struck back with Butler’s second try.

Late tries from Matty Russell and Andre Savelio doomed Halifax to a third straight defeat. JAMES DeGALE thinks Conor McGregor against Floyd Mayweather is a mismatch – but he will not be able to stop himself flying to Las Vegas to watch it.

Despite odds falling last week, bookies still make UFC superstar McGregor a 7-2 underdog and Mayweather the 1-5 favourite for the light-middleweight boxing contest on Saturday.

Those wide odds have done nothing to dampen the public’s interest in a fight which, despite being slammed by some MEMORABLE MOMENT: Houghton’s heroic late tackle in last year’s final
