WILLIAN WANTS A LOT MOR

- ■ by PAUL HETHERINGTON

BRIDGE BUILDER: Conte relishes a Chelsea ground move WILLIAN is aiming to forge a new striking partnership with Alvaro Morata – after pal Diego Costa went into self-imposed exile.

The samba star is close to Chelsea’s rebel striker but admits he now has to hit it off with Costa’s replacement. Willian said: “I hope to have that understanding with all the players in our team so we can score more goals.

“I had a great combination with Michy Batshuayi in pre-season games. “Against Arsenal in the Community Shield I played a pass to Morata which, in Brazil, we call ‘tres dedos’. That’s when you use three toes to play the ball with the outside of the foot.

“I saw the space in behind the defender. In that situation the only way to make the pass was to use the outside of the foot. “My qualities are to dribble, to take the ball one against one and to make assists. “I have this quality and I want to use it.” Chelsea could do with Willian showing those qualities against Spurs today. He might have been the second Chelsea player to move to Manchester United this summer – if Jose Mourinho had his way. The Old Trafford boss has already recruited Stamford Bridge old boy Nemanja Matic. Brazilian Willian, 29, (left) would also suit Mourinho as he is in the market for a top-class winger.

But Chelsea will surely not sell another top player to title rivals United. Willian will know that so his focus must be on striking up a partnership with Morata.
