Jaap’s rap for fans as Jon is the Hull Dadi

- By ROB BARLOW

READING escaped with a draw from a dour contest thanks to an 87th-minute Jon Dadi Bodvarsson leveller.

But boss Jaap Stam criticised the club’s fans after some sections of the Madejski Stadium crowd jeered him and his side.

Hull went ahead in the 28th minute when Fraizer Campbell coolly finished after a fine pass from Seb Larsson.

Reading levelled three minutes from the end when sub Bodvarsson drilled home from an acute angle.

Stam said: “If I feel pressure from the fans and how they act at certain times, that’s a little bit wrong.

“You need to write something about that.

“You cannot only jeer when it’s not going well and then for the rest of the game we don’t hear from you.

“As a fan, you need to support your team and not jeer against them. The players are working very hard to get a result, to do well and to win their games.

“It’s not only the fans who think about winning.”

Stam was also booed when making his substitutions.

“The crowd is not telling me who to bring on,” the Dutchman added.

“They need to look at themselves and not at me.”

Reading narrowly avoided a third successive home defeat, while Hull have endured a frustrating spell on their travels and are still without an away league win for 13 months.

“It is very difficult to analyse,” Hull head coach Leonid Slutsky said.

“We were very close to winning this match and we need a win away from home like fresh air.

“Everybody is very disappointed because we had more chances to win and we controlled the match.

“We had clear chances, we hit the bar from a free-kick and it is really difficult to take.

“We worked very hard and we had patience as well. We just need to win and we will wait for that win to come.

“Is not winning away a mental problem? Maybe. But a mental problem is difficult to research or change.”
