AMAZING GRACE SET TO WOW

- ■ RUGBY LEAGUE

GRACE FAN: John Kear REGAN GRACE hopes to take the world by storm over the next few weeks.

The winger, 20, has been sensational for St Helens since making his debut five months ago.

He was shortlisted for Super League’s Young Player of the Year award and will be key to Wales’ World Cup hopes.

But coach John Kear insists he is not simply cashing in on Grace’s amazing few months.

He said: “Everyone thinks he has come from nowhere but he has come through the Wales DAN-TASTIC: Maguire’s first try pathway. Regan took his opportunity with Saints this season with a fantastic game against Wigan – but he had already played three times for Wales.

“He blew me away when I first saw him. He loves space and is good enough and quick enough to take advantage.”

Grace grew up in South Wales and played rugby union until he was 13, when he saw a poster advertising league with Neath Port Talbot Steelers.

He played both codes for a while but at the age of 16 he turned his back on league to focus on union – until Saints sent scouts run the rule over him. and signed him initially for one season.

Grace said: “Three years later, I’m still here and loving it.”

But he admits it is hard to believe he is about to play World Cup games against Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Ireland.

Wales will announce their 24-man squad on Tuesday. England will name theirs tomorrow.
