Rhinos revel in greatest success
JOY: Jones-Buchanan LEEDS RHINOS’ heroes were planning the biggest party ever after their sensational Grand Final success last night.
Man-of-the-match Danny McGuire said: “It is an unbelievable way to go out for me. Our work ethic was sensational.
“We came from a dark place last year but our commitment and effort has been second to none.
“The boys are buzzing. I am going to enjoy tonight and the next few days.”
Rob Burrow added: “Tonight is a fairytale ending for me and I have loved every day of my career.
“But Cas have been absolutely fantastic this season and I am sure they are going to go on and do great things.”
Leeds forward Jamie Jones-Buchanan said: “That was just amazing. Cas have been outstanding all season and I’m sure they’ll learn from this tonight but Danny McGuire was outstanding tonight.
“This time last year we were fighting for Super League survival yet we have come back and won a Grand Final.
“People gravitate to stories and I think rugby league needs to tell the world about Castleford – it’s been a great story.
“A town of 40,000 people, most of whom will have been here today, everyone needs to get their pen out, get their video cameras out and tell this story to everyone.”
Rhinos coach Brian McDermott said: “This group of people have gone through every emotion over the last 18 months.
“The fans have stuck with us when the dark times were really, really dark so this is for them and the whole club. This is the best win ever.”
Cas coach Daryl Powell said: “We saved our very worst performance for our last game. We simply made too many errors.
“Leeds deserved to win. We made so many unforced errors so it is hugely disappointing.
“We have come to a big occasion and made 18 errors – you cannot win a Grand Final like that.
“We have progressed so much this year but come up well short in the Grand Final.
“But take nothing away from Leeds because they deserve it.
“We have got to use this to move forward but this will hurt because we did not do ourselves justice.”
