‘Kinky Beeb staff took sex dolls’ DEL STAR’S ONLY FOOLS CLAIM

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by JOHN WARD

SIR David Jason reckons randy BBC staff ran off with the blow-up dolls used in Only Fools and Horses’ rudest show.

The saucy sex aids appeared in the notorious Danger UXD episode of the sitcom.

And veteran actor Sir David, who played wheeler-dealer Del Boy Trotter for 12 years, joked that it would “not surprise” him if staff had taken them after filming.

But he said as long as they found a “stable and loving home” he was not fussed.

He also revealed how he and co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Rodney, turned down an offer to take them home.

Danger UXD saw the Trotters trying to get rid of a consignment of faulty sex dolls which inflated before exploding in flames.

Sir David, 77, said: “With regard to the rumour that, somewhere along the way, two or three of these dolls had gone missing, I will not be drawn to make a comment. I did not count them all out, and therefore I was not in a position to count them all back.

“Nothing would surprise me, though. People have their needs, after all, and as long as those dolls found a stable and loving home, that’s the main thing.”

He said he and co-star Nicholas, 56, also briefly considered taking a couple of the dolls used in the 1989 series home as a memento. But they decided to turn down the idea because they did not want to upset their girlfriends at the time.

Sir David said: “As we were leaving at the end of the day, Nick and I were asked if either of us wanted to take one home as a memento.

“The question was put to us perfectly matter-of-factly, as if this stock of unwanted sex toys were just a plate of uneaten sandwiches – kind of, ‘You might as well take them, because they’ll only go to waste otherwise’.

“Both of us politely declined the offer and left.”

Sir David said the decision to use sex toys in the family show was not taken lightly as bosses knew it could offend some viewers.

He said the Beeb’s props experts had spent hours “de-sexualising” some of the dolls and covering their plastic privates.

He added: “The eventual plan was to acquire some actual inflatable dolls and then, in the privacy of a BBC props workshop, slightly amend them with the sensitivities of a wider audience in mind.”
