Davinson has double vision

DAVINSON SANCHEZ has his sights set on a trophy-laden first season at Tottenham.

The powerful defender – a £42million summer signing from Ajax – is dreaming of winning both the Premier League and Champions League.

And the way Spurs are playing this season he thinks that is very much a possibility.

The Londoners face Liverpool at Wembley this afternoon – a mouth-watering prospect for the Colombian international.

Sanchez, 21, said: “This game is very special because both teams have big players who can win games.

“Facing Liverpool will be hard but we will look to win because we have the mentality to keep up the performance from Tuesday.

“But we also need to look to the future, as after Liverpool we have West Ham, Manchester United and Real Madrid again.”

Sanchez won the Copa Libertadores with his first club Atletico Nacional and has played in big games for Ajax.

And he hopes that experience can help Spurs land some silverware this season.

He said: “That mentality helped me when I started here and has improved my performances.

“I love playing at Wembley. I believe the atmosphere is important and we always have a fantastic support from our fans.

“It gives us a very special connection when we are stood on the pitch and hear them.

“Wembley is our home and our fans make it really feel like the other team are away, so for that reason the atmosphere is very important for us.

“We have tried to pick up as many points as possible at Wembley, unfortunately that hasn’t quite happened for us. We won in the Champions League and in the League Cup and we’ve just picked up three points in the league in our new home.

“But it’s important not to drop points in the league and that’s why we are currently battling it out at the top.”

Harry Winks, meanwhile, was relishing the cheers from the Spurs fans as they left the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday.

They had just held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in a thrilling Champions League tie against the holders and 12-time winners.

Winks, 21, had spent the summer fighting his way back to fitness after an ankle injury at Burnley in April halted his blossoming career in its tracks.

He said: “That was a dark time so to go to a place like that, play as well as we did and get a result makes it all worth it.

“The manager has shown trust in me to start me in a game like this and that has given me real confidence.”
