LUTHER STAR BACK TO MUSIC

-

IDRIS Elba will take a break from acting to try to re-launch his music career.

The Luther actor is swapping his TV lines for rap lyrics after deciding to bring back his musical alter-ego DJ Driiis.

I can reveal the Londoner is planning to release a full-length hip-hop record, which could lead to a series of albums.

The Golden Globe-winning actor said: “I am going to do a full mix tape. I love hip-hop and I have something to say. I’m never gonna put out something that is whack, ever.”

Idris became a worldwide star thanks to his role in award-winning series The Wire. He’s since become one of the UK’s most sought-after actors thanks to his starring

TV role in Luther and films Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, Thor: The Dark World and Jungle Book.

He is currently filming the next series of BBC drama Luther before heading off to work on the Dark Tower TV spin off.

But despite more huge roles coming in, as well as being touted as a possible future replacement to Daniel Craig’s James Bond, Idris wants to go back to his first love. He has released numerous EPs in the past and even co-produced and performed on the intro to Jay Z’s 2007 album American Gangster

And he is serious about re-launching his music career although his manager Oronde Garrett still needs a bit of persuasion. Idris said: “We’ve had huge conversations about me spitting [rapping].

“We talk about this all the time, and he is like, ‘Idris, if you gonna rap, you have to come out and say something’. He doesn’t believe I am going to do it, but I am.” The sex symbol isn’t concerned about facing a backlash over his rap release either.

He added: “Life is for living. Tomorrow is not promised. So why even think I should have done that. You might as well get on and do it. People spend too much time thinking about what they want to be.”

Idris is currently starring in the blockbuster movie The Mountain Between Us with Kate Winslett.
