MATT IS THE WAY BRUCE AND JT THE PERFECT

STEVE BRUCE and John Terry are the ideal pair – both on and off the pitch – to lead Aston Villa back to the Premier League.

In-form Villa, on the back of four wins in five league games, make the short trip to St Andrew’s this afternoon to face bitter rivals Birmingham.

And Tony Morley, a hero at Villa Park, cannot wait.

The ex-England winger, 63, admits the progress of Bruce’s side so far this season has been more steady than spectacula­r. But having lost only once in 10 games, the fallen Midlands giants are now right in the scrap for a top-six spot.

And Morley, part of Villa’s league and European Cup-winning side of the early 1980s, is convinced they are in a decent position to chase down the early pacesetter­s.

Especially when the club have such a wealth of experience to call upon, led by ex-Blues and Hull boss Bruce (left) and former England and Chelsea skipper Terry. Morley said: “We’re in the play-off places and not too far behind the leaders.

“It hasn’t been fantastic this season and there’s definitely plenty of room for improvemen­t but, for me, that’s not such a bad thing.

“I’m actually happier that we’re not sitting at the top with everyone else looking to shoot at us. That would create extra pressure.

“I prefer it where we are – looking to pick up the pace the longer the season goes on.
