Ska king’s son pays UK tribute

-

THE son of Ska legend Prince Buster will perform in Britain for the first time to thank fans for keeping his dad’s legacy alive.

Sultan Ali will sing his dad’s most famous tunes as an exclusive one-off tribute at the Skamouth festival in Great Yarmouth.

Prince Buster was a huge influence on Britain’s 2 Tone explosion of the early 1980s.

Madness took their name from his 1963 single and their debut single The Prince was written in his honour.

They also covered his songs Madness and One Step Beyond – the title of their debut album – while The Specials covered Prince Buster’s Enjoy Yourself and adapted his hit Al Capone for their first single Gangsters.

Ali, known as the Sultan of Ska, said: “My father was overwhelmed by the love and respect shown to him by British bands and fans.

“England helped keep his legacy alive. That’s why I am delighted to be performing this special tribute at Skamouth.”

Prince Buster, whose real name was Cecil Bustamente Campbell, was born in Jamaica and died last year.

The Skamouth festival, run by The Specials star Neville Staple and his wife Christine, takes place from November 23 to 27.

QUEEN star Brian May has begged people not to burn hedgehogs in their bonfires tonight.

The animal rights campaigner wants revellers to check for hibernating hogs before setting them alight.

Brian, 70, says to listen out for a hissing sound they make when they feel threatened.
