Grooming plot a winner for Lucy

CORRIE star Lucy Fallon is set to win Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards tomorrow. Lucy, 21, was at the centre of a shocking storyline that saw her character, schoolgirl Bethany Platt, groomed by twisted Nathan Curtis.

He was part of a sex ring that also included police officer Neil Clifton.

Last month the gang was found guilty of raping Bethany and of conspiracy to rape.

The hard-hitting plot was praised by children’s charities for raising awareness of sex abuse. But it is Lucy’s performance that has made her favourite to win during tomorrow night’s ceremony at the Hippodrome Casino in London.

She is on the shortlist alongside Emmerdale stars Charlotte Bellamy and Zoe Henry, and Hollyoaks actress

A soap source told the Daily

Star Sunday: “Lucy is set to be crowned Best Actress. She was flawless. This really looks like it will be the first of many awards for her.”

Lucy joined Corrie as the daughter of Sarah Platt at the beginning of 2015.

Before the child-grooming storyline her character was bullied at school and became obsessed with dieting and exercise.

Inside Soap magazine editor Steven Murphy refused to confirm if she was going to win but added: “It’s been a great year of drama in the soaps, with some amazing twists and heartbreaking performances. We can’t wait to see who lifts the trophies tomorrow night.”
