Ex-Huggy star out to cop a role

-

IT has been 42 years since Huggy Bear first graced our screens helping maverick police officers Starsky and Hutch solve crimes.

But now the US series is being rebooted for Amazon and original actor Antonio Fargas wants back in.

The 71-year-old, who was in 2004’s I’m A Celebrity, reckons he could return as Huggy or even play the informant’s mentor.

While he looks youthful for his age, Antonio revealed director James Gunn is picking up from where the Bay City cops’ lives left off when it last aired in 1979.

Antonio, speaking at the 3rd Annual Carney Awards in LA, which celebrates the best character actors in the business, said: “I still have Huggy Bear in me. I could play him.

“In one series, Huggy had a mentor. So for me to be the mentor of a character is an easy thing to do. If they do it, we will see.”

Antonio added: “The one thing that piques my interest is that they are trying to just continue on where we left off. I’m intrigued to see how they pull that off.”

The original Starsky and Hutch ran for four seasons and 93 episodes.

The planned reboot follows a 2004 comedy movie version which featured Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in the lead roles.
