Kid Saba a Bel-ter
BELARUS teenager Aryna Sabalenka shocked US Open champion Sloane Stephens to level the Fed Cup final at 1-1 after the opening singles in Minsk.
America’s top-ranked Coco Vandeweghe had earlier beaten Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 6-4 – the home player’s first defeat in this year’s competition.
Sabalenka, 19, playing as Belarus No.1 in the absence of Victoria Azarenka, produced a battling display to defeat Stephens 6-3 3-6 6-4 in just over two hours at the Chizhovka Arena.
Stephens, the world
No.13, has not won a match since her surprise triumph in New York in September and was soon
3-0 down in the first set. Both struggled with their serve in the decider with Sabalenka eventually claiming match point at the fourth attempt. TOUGH TO TAKE: Frampton lost his second fight against Santa Cruz in January
