Goff delivers Fed exit

- ■ TENNIS

Daily Star Sunday JAMES GRAHAM is a very funny bloke and I love him to bits because he makes me laugh so much.

But it is a bit like having my grandad on tour because some of his ideas are so strange.

“Jammer” gave me a 10-minute talk the other day on why he doesn’t like social media and why he won’t use it.

I love it because it’s part of the times but Jammer is like an old bloke from the 1980s or something.

He’s great to have around, though, even BELGIUM’S David Goffin pulled off a huge shock to beat six-time champion Roger Federer 2-6 6-3 6-4 in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals

Goffin staged a remarkable comeback after being outclassed in the first set.

Federer, the world No.2, snaffled the opener in just 33 minutes. But Goffin broke serve with a forehand winner in the though he’s strange. Another top bloke to have with us on tour is Bubble – Chris Baron – our conditioner.

He is the funniest bloke I have ever met and always has the boys in stitches. He is never down and you need someone like him around.

It’s a long tour and if anyone is feeling tired or a bit down, all they need is 10 minutes with Bubble to get them back up.

With any big group of lads, you always get a lot of banter and mickey-taking and it’s normally Mark Percival who cops it the most.

If someone has done something daft they have to stand up in front of us all and tell their story – and it’s usually him who’s the idiot.

He takes it really well, though, and that’s testimony to how close this squad has become.

I honestly think we are closer than a club second game of the second set and went on to take the match into a decider.

The Belgian, 26, broke Federer’s serve again at 1-1 in the third set and held his nerve.

First-time qualifier Goffin’s moment of truth arrived at 5-4 when he stepped up to serve for the biggest win of his career. team and it’s fantastic that we’ve got such a special group.

If we get a day off we stick together because we love each other’s company so much.

We are all playing for our country and none of us want to let anyone down. When you’re in a tough game those sort of special bonds stand massively in your favour.
